Citi is offering an increased bonus on the AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard once again. It’s not the best bonus we have seen, but you can get matched for an extra 20K miles. The offer has the 24 month restriction.
Citi AA Mastercard Offer
- Earn 40,000 American Airlines AAdvantage bonus miles after $2,000 in purchases within the first 3 months of account opening.
- Plus, new cardmembers can also receive up to a $250 statement credit on eligible American Airlines purchases in the first 12 months of account opening.
- Annual fee $99, waived for the first 12 months
You can ask to be matched to a better offer and you should receive an extra 20,000 miles, which is usually the limit that Citi will give you. That will get you a total of 60,000 American Airlines AAdvantage miles and $250 credit. There’s one issue with this now. Citi has removed the messaging feature from its website, so I’m not sure how smoothly the matching will work.
Applying for the Card
American Airlines AAdvantage bonus miles are not available if you have had any Citi® / AAdvantage® card (other than an AAdvantage MileUp℠ or CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® card) opened or closed in the past 24 months.
This is a good offer, but we’ve seen better in the past. When 50K offers come around, you can match for up to 70K and get to keep the statement credit. The statement credit is better now though, up to $250, and it should be triggered by any AA purchases and even AA gift card purchases. Just keep in mind that it’s not guaranteed that you’ll be matched.
