Discover has an incredible deal about almost two years back, March 16, 2019 to March 31, 2019. They ran a promotion for Apple Pay, where Discover cardmembers using their cards through the digital wallet would automatically earn an extra 10% Cashback Bonus on up to $10,000 of in-store purchases. Some people also had the double cash back promotion on their Discover card, making this an insanely profitable deal.
While it was indeed very profitable for many, there were issues. Discover stopped paying out on gift card purchases and even people that didn’t purchase gift cards were having problems.
Now Discover has sent out email to lots of people to let them know that they will be receiving more cashback from that promotion. Here’s what the email says:
Thank you for enrolling on March 19, 2019 in our promotional offer of 10% Cashback Bonus® on up to $10,000 in Discover® card purchases made with Discover card in Apple Pay from March 16, 2019 to March 31, 2019. Based on an internal review, we have decided to award you additional Cashback Bonus related to this promotion. It will appear on your statement within the next two billing cycles.
Thank you for choosing Discover and enjoy your Cashback Bonus.

I’m not sure what prompted Discover to issue this cashback after all this time, and there’s not much detail in the emails on the amount of cashback or what purchases it affects. It could be that they are now paying cash back on gift cards, as that seems to be most of the cashback that was missing for many.
